Match Reports :

Match day 25 July 2010   Toukley 3-1 versus Southern Ettalong. Final Score Toukley 3 goals defeated Southern Ettalong 1 goal   After an anxious night waiting to see if the ground would be open, (and Teena texting Gumboots offering bribes if he didn't shut the field) we prepared to take some revenge on SEU for damaging Nat's leg last time we played. Yes, this was the team who nearly caused our super sweeper to have her leg amputated. We were keen, we were fired up, we were..........very late. Once again, the esky has benefited from the poor time keeping of nearly half the team.....   An energetic warm up got us back on track, and we were very excited to have an official referee this week. He made it quite clear that he wouldn't tolerate any back chat, and a few early offside calls against SEU caused their number 8 to fire up, and she earned herself an early yellow card. Her sideline support was also quite vocal, but we just ignored them and kept our mind on the job at hand. We knew that beating them would shut them up (maybe!).   We scored first, courtesy of Cath, which quietened SEU for a short time, but soon they caught us napping and evened the score. Just before half time, a great pass from Nicky to Teena led to Teena placing a lovely high ball across the field for April to run onto and score. The crowd went wild and we led into half time 2-one.   We dominated the second half with some great passing, and were unlucky not to score more goals than the one we did - full credit to Amy. Our defence was rock solid. Kerry is always reliable as stopper, Cess and Elise keep the forwards pinned with their pace, and Nat was impersonating the Great Wall of China - nothing was getting past her. Coach Mahoon and Ass Coach Steve are very happy with our overall improvement this season, and we remained in second place, due to goal averages.   Goal scorers were - Cath, Amy, and April .  Player of the match was Nat,  with honourable mentions to Nicky and Cath, who tied for the points.   It was great to be able to watch and support some of our other senior teams, as our draw this year has been out of step with most other Toukley teams. Go the Gunners!   Next week we travel to Berkeley Vale, who are running third. Will they repeat their three red card haul from the first round?   Guess Who - Don't Sue   Who is an undiscovered talent at the pool table?   Who likes to get their knees up?   Who has discovered the benefits of Emo Love?

Match day 18 July 2010   Toukley 3-1 versus Toukley 3-2.  Final Score Toukley 3-1 5 goals defeated Toukley 3-2 1 goal   Well, I have been very slack and now I have to exercise my old lady brain to remember what happened in three soccer matches. Apologies for any errors I make!   The long awaited grudge match against our fellow club mates arrived, and the build up was a bit less intense than last time. We had a point to prove, and were focussed on our own strengths to win this one. We weren't going to over-analyse it like we did last time. It seemed like a great tactic, as only Nat, Cath and Teena showed up to training on Tuesday night. This would give confidence to our opponents, as a mystery illness had taken hold of the rest of the party team - was it too much red bull at the "Dancing on the Deck"party?   The pre-game warm up started well - for the esky fund. A number of players were late and as a result there are now at least three cartons of corona (plus lime) to be contributed to the end of season trip away. Ass Coach Steve's words about focussing on the game seemed to be falling on deaf ears.   With no official ref (again) Mark stepped up to the challenge of keeping 22 fiery ladies in line. The game started well for the ladies in blue - some great passing meant we were three-nil up within 20 minutes. Unfortunately we soon went to sleep, and Cheryl Mahooon was able to score her first goal (congratulations) to restore some pride for her team. This fired them up, but we were able to withstand their onslaught and hold them out to lead into half time 3-1.   The second half saw us score two more goals. Our passing game was superb, and we know if we can keep this form for the rest of the season we will be hard to beat. Unfortunately the game was cut short by a few minutes due to an injury to Cheryl, and we all wish you a speedy recovery. Bit of an extreme way to get some attention Cheryl, but to each their own!   Goal scorers were - Crystal, Amy, April and Bec scored 2.  For the first time this year we have two players of the match - Amy and Bec tied for the points, with very honourable mention to Kerry, who was very close behind in the points tally.   Next week - home game against Southern Ettalong. Go the Gunner Girls!!

Match day 4 July 2010   Toukley 3-1 versus Umina.  Final Score Nil all draw   Ass Coach Steve was in charge of the WAA3 Party Team this week, due to Coach Mahooon recovering from knee surgery. The plan was simple - score more goals than the other team. Unfortunately, although we created heaps of opportunities, nothing, nil, nada, zilch was hitting the back of the bloody net. We played well, and it was disappointing not to win, especially as Jane and Bec were out and we had no subs. Everyone put in such a great effort. Full credit to the Umina keeper, who kept them in the game.   Thanks to Mark for reffing us. You did a great job. Perhaps you should don the black outfit and be in the centre of the park every week.   Player of the match was Amy, with honourable mentions to Nat and Cessa.

Match day 27 June 2010   Toukley 3-1 versus Mangrove.  Final Score Two all draw   We drove all the way to the Mountains to play a game that meant nothing. The esky fund was increased by a few late fines, which is annoying for the coach but great for the trip away. We started quite well, and were two goals up, thanks to some great moves by Crystal to score both goals. Unfortunately, Mountains had recruited some speedy zippy girls after last time we played them, and the few weeks of rain and little training was impacting on our fitness and ability to chase those speedy people. Mountains came back with two goals, evening up the score. Our back line played superbly, keeping us in the game, as the Mountains girls continued to attack. The pure air must have given them a lot of energy!   Not our best effort, but it was good to have a run, and try to get our touch back. We can improve on this game, no doubt about that.   Player of the match was Elise, with honourable mentions to Crystal and Nat.   Guess Who - Don't Sue   Who wants to sleep on the louch?   Who is the new mystery man on our sidelines?   Who has taken up pole dancing, and why?

20 June.  Toukley 3-1 versus Kariong. Final Score Toukley 1 drew Kariong 1   Well, after five, YES FIVE,  weeks of no games due to the rain, we dusted off our boots and shin pads and returned to the field to do what we think we do best. For those who aren't sure what that might be - it's playing soccer. We knew match fitness was going to be a problem, despite Jody's zumba moves, and only having one sub was going to make the game harder. We started well, and tested the opposition goal keeper a few times and were unlucky not to score. Kariong also had some opportunities, and Kirstin saved a couple of great shots. Unfortunately, soon they got one away and we went into half time 1-nil down.   Coach Mahoon held our undivided attention with some words of wisdom, we came out with renewed purpose in the second half, and our persistence paid off with a goal to Crystal. We kept the pressure on, and were unlucky not to score again. Five weeks off has dulled our knowledge of the rules, as we were thinking that studs up is still illegal, and a hand ball is when your hand or arm makes contact with the ball. Perhaps our ref had aspirations of reffing at the World Cup one day? Anyway, no point questioning it too much. Can't blame the ref ( too much) for not winning.   Final score was a 1-1 draw.   Player of the match was Crystal, with honourable mentions to Kirstin and Nat.   Our next game is up at Mangrove Mountain next Sunday. Supporters are requested to pack passports, thermal underwear and navigational equipment.   Guess Who - Don't Sue   Who is creating havoc in Borneo?   Who took a man home for the first time in a few months?   Whose new nickname is Kamikaze - and it's not for the way she plays soccer?

Round 5 Toukley 3-1 versus Berkeley Vale. Final Score Toukley 2 d Berkeley Vale nil

We thought soccer was a non-contact sport............The party team's numbers were decimated this week before kick off, with Amy absent and Captain Nat sidelined by a huge and colourful bruise. See facebook for the pictures. Our opponents looked young and bouncy, and the game started in a fairly even fashion. The Berkeley Vale style was clear to all - their high feet were reminiscent of the kicks that famous dance troupe, Champagne Cleavage. Fifteen minutes into the game, Teena was carried off injured, never to return. Hammy 1 Teena nil. Toukley continued on with ten players, and Kistin made some great saves to keep Toukley in the match. Captain Nat then emerged to play and even up the numbers. Both teams made some attacks on goal, and it was nil all at half time.   The second half saw Toukley launching attacks on goal, and soon scored a scrambly goal, which passed through many hungry Toukley girls who had pushed forward into the box. But Cath claimed the honours with a lovely toe-poke. The opposing keeper took umbrage, and kicked the ball into Jane's stomach, winding her. Crystal stepped up to remonstrate, but Cath neatly intervened, earning herself a push from the BV keeper that earned her a spot on the ground on top of Jane. The ref added entertainment to the game by handing out three red cards within the next 5 or so minutes, and the BV team refused to carry on. A brief hiatus ensued, and then commonsense prevailed and they played on with 8 players. Toukley scored a second goal, courtesy of April. Final Score Toukley 2 goals, BV 3 red cards.   We have kept our spot on top of the table. Player of the Match was Kirstin with honourable mentions to Bec and Nat.   Next week we play Doyalson, who are currently in second place, at home. This is an old grudge match, so come along and watch some great women's soccer.   On a sad note, we would like to express our condolences to the family of Mandy Carter on their tragic loss. Mandy was Teena's first soccer coach, and many of the girls have played against her over the years in the winter comp, summer 6 a-side and indoor competitions. Mandy will be missed by the women's soccer community on the Coast.   Guess Who - Don't Sue   Who is changing careers to be either a sommelier or boxer, or both?   Who is the secret new signing joining the party team?   Who is in training to take revenge against Doyalson for last year's unfair battle in the nets?

Round 4 Toukley 3-1 versus Southern Ettalong. Final Score Toukley 3 d SEU 2

We thought soccer was a winter sport...........On yet another hot day our favourite party girls headed down the F3 (again) for another match against one of the teams from the southern end of the coast. In past years, SEU have provided some tough competition and we didn't think this year was going to be any different. We needed to get back in the winners circle and put last week's defeat behind us, so we had to step up a notch or two.   A look at the field made our injured players shudder. It had more holes than a block of Swiss cheese, and more hills than the south island of New Zealand. Obviously the word flat hasn't reached the vocabulary of our southern opponents. And the least said about the cricket pitch in the middle of the field the better. But our brave heroines weren't going to dwell on the negatives - we had a game to win, and a position at the top of the table to defend.   The first half started well. Our passing was great, and our mids and forwards were testing out the SEU keeper. Some great build up work from Kerry and April gave Bec her first goal of the year, and the large crowd went wild. Toukley kept the pressure on, and soon April slotted away a great goal. Toukley went into the half time break 2-nil.   But SEU weren't going to let us win easily. They came out fired up for the second half, and made some fast runs that had our backs scrambling. An unlucky deflection led to SEU's first goal, and they soon tied up the score. Two-all.   But the party team weren't going to let this one get away. They awoke from their micro-sleep and returned to form. April was having more shots than a bride-to-be on her hens' night. Soon an elbow to her throat gave April a free kick, and she slotted away her second goal for the game. We were fired up to score more goals, but some great saves from the SEU keeper prevented the score from increasing.   But the win felt great, and once again other results went our way, and we are alone on top of the table. Player of the Match was  April, with honourable mentions to Bec, Cath and Kerry.   Next week we play Berkeley Vale, who are currently in third place, at home. So come along and watch some great women's soccer.     Guess Who - Don't Sue   Who has won the Award for Best Bruise in the 2010 season to date?   Whose swearing fines (at herself) would be the equivalent of the national debt of Greece?   Which player took Garry home after only knowing him for a day?

Round 3 Toukley 3-1 versus Toukley 3-2

On a hot day, as the tumbleweed blew across the field, two brave teams faced off against each other in a battle for bragging rights. The supporters were clearly divided, the crowd silent in anticipation, and as the whistle blew (we think) the most anticipated game in the history of women's soccer at our club began. The 2010 Battle of All Age 3 Game One is set to go down in history.   Unfortunately, the heroines of the Party Team were not victorious on this fine day. It is wholeheartedly agreed that they did not play their finest soccer. The youthful vigour of their opponents was relentless. Some opportunities to score were squandered, and after a tightly contested first half, the half time score was nil-all. Both teams headed into the second half pumped up, and the tight contest raged on. A goal to WAA3-2 put them ahead, but our party team did not give up, and fought to the bitter end. Injuries and illness were forgotten in the determination to try to even the score. Alas, it was not to be.   Final score WAA3-2 1 defeated WAA3-1 nil.     Luckily, other results went our way and we are still on the top of the table due to goal averages, which makes a nice change from last year. But there is to be no resting on laurels - we must pull up our socks, put the disappointment of losing this game behind us and get back to the form that led us to two great wins earlier in the season.   Player of the Match was Amy, with honourable mentions to Cess, Crystal and Bec.   Thanks to Tom for reffing - we appreciate you stepping up to the challenge of controlling 22 feisty women, and their entourages. Welcome to WAA3-2 Coach Rick, we hope you enjoy the season ahead. Congratulations to WAA3-2 on their first win of the season - hopefully you will continue with your fine form and let's hope that it's an all Toukley WAA3 Grand Final. Go the Gunners!!!!   Guess Who - Don't Sue   Who is enjoying the taste of humble pie?   Who's best friend is Melvin?   Did someone really go skinny-dipping at the Beachie in a futile attempt to drown her sorrows?

Round 2 Toukley WAA3 - 1 v Umina. Toukley won 3-nil.   After swallowing their disappointment at being the only senior Toukley team not to play at home, the party team continued their winning form with a 3-nil victory over Umina. Unfortunately, the pre-game preparation was not the finest, and with 20 minutes before kick off we only had about 7 players. What are the odds of that? Luckily, the remainder of the team showed up in time for a quick warm-up and pep talk, and this was the only hiccup to an otherwise great performance.   This week we had two subs, and what a relief in the heat, especially with a couple of players recovering from a day at the races. April and Crystal were out of the blocks early, making some great runs down the right side.  Anyone backing Toukley to score within 5 minutes of the game commencing would been smiling, as Kerry soon slotted away a great ball from April to put the gunners ahead 1-nil. A great start.   Toukley kept the pressure on, and once again were having shots from all over the park. Jane and Bec kept firing, as did Crystal, April and Kerry. The odds of another goal were shortening, and a great ball from outside the box from Cath dipped in time to soar over the Umina keeper's head and into the back of the net. 2-nil.   The second half continued much the same as the first. We kept the pressure on, with everybody working hard and putting in a great effort in the heat. Bec soon upped the score to 3-nil, and whilst Umina made a few attacking runs, we kept them scoreless with some great defending and superb use of the off-side rule.   Goal scorers were Kerry, Bec and Cath. Player of the match was April, with honourable mention to Amy, Crystal, and Jane. We have now won two out of two, and are on top of the table. Perhaps the comp should stop right now?   Our next game is at 10.30 on 2 May at Toukley, against the other Toukley side. Bragging rights are up for grabs. No doubt both teams are analysing each other at training and working out the tactics. So come and watch and support women's soccer in our club. And may the WAA3-1 party team win........   PS  Guess who......don't sue.....   Who is sponsored by Rebel Sport?   Which former party team member has gone forward and multiplied?   Which members of the famous dance troupe Champagne Cleavage are uniting with members of the Irish boy band Saltlife to form a new supergroup, Salty Cleavage?

Round 1 Toukley WAA3 - 1 v Mountains. Toukley won 3-nil.   Sunday morning's arrived at last............The party team was well rested (well, from outdoor soccer, anyway) and was fired up and ready to play. We managed to keep almost the same team as last year, which is rare in women's soccer, and this showed from the start of the game. We played like a team who has been together for years, making space and passing the ball really well.  With many players having shots at goal from all over the park it was only a matter of time before we scored, and we went into the half time break with a 1-nil lead.  It could have been much more.....   The second half continued much the same as the first. We kept the pressure on, and soon slotted away two more goals. The defence, under the commend of Captain Nat,  worked hard, and as a result our injured keeper Kirstin rarely had to touch the ball - which was great because an injury at training prevented her from kicking the ball, and she had to throw it to re-commence play on the few times she needed to get involved in the game. Our mid-field were constantly assisting in attack and defence, and everybody played well and put in a great effort. A superb start to the season, especially on a hot day with only one sub. The main area of improvement is our fitness, and the Ass Coach has some plans to implement when he gets over that special time of the month. Can't wait for that..........   Goal scorers were Kerry, April and Crystal. Player of the match was April, with honourable mention to Crystal, Nat and Bec.   PS  Guess who......don't sue.....   Which player's festering p wound has healed?   Which player was missing because she was fraternising with a hobbit?   Which player scored a goal and scored a carton of beer?   Who has ever heard of UM-MIN-AHHHH
