Match Reports :
PLEASURE & PAIN Toukley WAA3/2 played WAA3/1 Reporting from Harry Moore oval Sunday 18/07/2010 It was once again time for this return match. No one was really sure what would happen. The 3/1's really needed a win to stay on top while the 3/2's knew it would be a hard game considering all the ill/injured players they had. The pre match meet and greet went well with everyone happy to be at the same oval for a change and looking forward to the post match celebrations together. Discussions were had by all coaches regarding the shortage of a Ref and linesman. It was then time for both teams to start warming up. The excitment was building knowing that Jodie was fit and ready to play after many weeks on the sideline with injury. Then Rick (3/2 coach) drops a bombshell. Cheryl would be playing up front with Ash Smith slotting into the position of stopper. Youth and speed was needed in the backline to combat the attack. The oppisition would not be expecting to see Cheryl up front waiting to strike with Sula. And yes it was a surprise, Mahoon (3/1 coach) actually didn't even notice - or so he said!!! The first 15 mins went all the way of the 3/1 team with some great ball work getting them 3 quick goals. And I am sure they also appreciated that Brooke was able to help them with this 3 nil lead.......... LOL ..........we luv you Brookie. And then the unexpected happend. As the play started to head back down the other end of the field, a bit of hussle and bussle between Cheryl and Elise was happening. And happen it did. A goal was scored and I am sure the whole of Toukley must have known who got the goal. But just in case you missed it, it was scored by CHERYL MAHOON. Yes that's right, CHERYL SCORED A GOAL. And can you believe it, Mahoon wasn't watching and he didn't see his wondereful caring wife score. UNBELIEVABLE!!! By the time half time rolled around the 3/2's were starting to get on top, the excitment building when the 3/2's got a couple of corners but unfortunatly the very well placed kick's from Kylie just couldn't find the back of the net. MAXY MAXY MAXY so close but maybe next time if you kick the ball not the air it will happen. LOL The second half was again fast paced. The 3/2's applied pressure right from the start and everyone is still shaking their heads about how they didn't score during that kick and miss scramble in the goal mouth. Bianca, Nicola and Ash Sw as usual took on anything that came their way. Jodie continued where she left off weeks ago before injury, tearing up the sidelines, creating space to cross to Bullet and Sula. As for their goalkeeper Candice, she coped really well with alot of pressure saves. And then came the pain. While trying to chase the speedy Bec down the line Cheryl kicks the ground instead of the ball and crashes down in a sreaming heap as a horrible cracking sound is heard in the crowd. Bec performed some great moves avoiding landing on her. Did I mention the pain. I didn't, well there was a fire truck lot of pain. An ambulance was called, farewell photos were taken as Cheryl was loaded in the ambulance with her trusty BF Lyn holding her hand. Reports started to filter thru a few hours later confirming the worst. The ankle was broken. It was also noted that The Gunners kept Wyong ED busy with 2 other players attending for injuries they got. Hope your recovery is a speedy one guys. I approched Coach Mahoon for a comment about the game and he responded "the score did not reflect how close the game actually was, a draw or only a goal difference would have seemed like a more likely result." He was impressed also with how well the 3/2's have blended and the improvement and confidence in all their players. So there it is folks. Till next time.................... PS I would like to thank everyone from both teams for your concern, best wishes along with offers of help that have been offered to Myself, Chris and our beautiful kids. Xxx
Sunday 4th July
Wow So much has happened over the past few weeks We have had wash outs and we have also played games that had no meaning at all Yes I know, I have been very slack with my reporting. Brooke & Glen please accept my sincere apoliges for this. I know how much this has impacted on your lives :P But I do have a very good excuse.............when I remember what it is I will let you know!!!!! Oh thats right. It has been all Bullets fault!!! Yes our very own, very sweet and innocent Ash C. I said that I couldn't write a match report till she scored. So now I have to do a 2 page report as our special pint sized Bullet scored TWO goals today. Today found us making the long trek down the coast to Sth Ettalong. Thankgod I got there as I had Austin trying to read the directory and he was taking me to Umina cause they had a skate ramp! On arrival at the ground I was surprised to see Kylie. A little birdie had told me that Kylie may not be there as she had attended a 70th party and was not a very well girl. Thankgod you could blame the meal you had there Kylie and not the alcohol which I am sure you didn't have much of the night before a game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The first 20 minutes was slow, but then Rick became very LOUD and FRUSTRATED on the side line, that even the opposition commented that we should pick up our game. Once we started using our sidlines and being the first to the ball we ended up going to the break 3-1 up. Our second half was not our best perfomance but we still managed to bring home a 4-2 win. Our other goal scorers were Nicola & Kylie. So guess what? I have just checked the table and we are no longer holding the Wooden spoon. WAA3-2 are now sitting 7th on the ladder. Between us and first place is only 9 points. We are still in this comp. We will finish this 2nd half of the season very hard . Well I hope this report has been good enough for my critecs. To each and every one of the WAA3 PLAYERS Congaratulations WE ROCK
Sunday 23rd May
Well its been a few weeks since my last report so I do apoligise...sorry... Yesterday found us making the trek up to the mountains to play a game which meant absolutly nothing no matter what the result was!!!!!! Whoever the bright spark was who decided that, should be shot, especially when some team members get injured. Sending lots of speedy get better wishes to both Jodie & Brooke. As for myself it was good to play again, my body/shoulder have pulled up well and also to see Sula fit to play again. Right from the start we were passing and controlling the ball well. Kath was put under pressure on a few occassions but with her great talking to our back line saved everything that came her way......We just might need to dip into the kitty to get some keeper gloves to make it easier. Our first goal came from some persistant play from Ashlie 'Rubber girl' Smith. You also did great as Goalie in the second half. Number two was from Kylie '2 goals' and the 3rd was a well placed dottie for Ashley 'Esmae' Sweeney. Bullet, Bullet, Bullet...do not give up yours will come, I can feel it in my old cracking bones that you will get a goal really soon. Just keep doing what you have been doing and it will happen. Todays player of the match goes to Max for keeping the likes of Bianca 'B', 'Pirate' Brooke and myself 'Nanna' in order and constantly always giving lots of encouragement to all the team. As well as some great defending play to save some close calls. A very close runner up goes to Jodie, just a bugger that you were injured. A special mention to has to go to Jodie's very concerned and loving man who scooped her off the ground and carried her to safety...............Aaaah is he your hero now Jodie!!! Thankyou to all our support crew who came to cheer us on.....Teena & Cath you both looked so cosy sitting with your blankie..... Till next time I leave you with a question, 'Who can leave their phone in Newcastle while out on friday night and then have to collect it on sunday morning in Manly?"
WAA3/2 2nd May Won 1 nil v Toukley 3/1 9th May nil all draw v Ourimbah I would firstly like to opoligise for not submitting last weeks report. The lovely people from Telstra thought it would be a good idea to disconnect our service. After extensive investigation and hours on hold it was realised that they had actually billed us twice!!! Still waiting for them to say sorry, what do you think my chances are?????????? So much has happened the past 2 weeks. We now have our very own Coach. Welcome Rick. Some may say you are insane taking on a ladies team, but I have it on good authority that you are sufficiently medicated on Sundays to with stand any possible stressful situations we can throw at you :-) Last week we had our first win of the year at the much antisipated & talked about local derby against the 3/1's The game was played hard with lots of support for both teams on the sidelines which was wonderful to have. We welcomed some new team mates Ashley Smith, Nicola & Sula, and it was Rick's first game as our coach. Thankyou to Tom, your bravery to Referee was very brave & commendable . There were so many good things to report on from the game that every single person in the team wanted and deserved the victory. Which now brings us to todays game. We farewelled Shanae from the team and wish her well in the 1's. Yet another beautiful day for soccer but I must admit when i signed on to play this "WINTER" sport never thought it would be so hot. As Rick said at half time the first 10-15 minutes was disgraceful, thankgod we didn't continue that. Max your talk, direction, positive support and that right boot of yours is just wonderful. We were so unlucky to not score in the first half there must have only been an ants inch in it. Bullet, it will come just keep trying. My contribution to the end of season kitty for all my foul throw ins will not continue, i promise. Lucky I don't play in the u/11's cause I would find myself doing extra laps at training as my daughter kindly pointed out. Btw I will be happy to accept any offers of gifts/money/alcohol for taking a dive to get the game finished early!!! Thanks to everyone for your concern after the game. Wasn't lucky enough to get a young cute Dr at the hospital but did get good results of no broken bones. See you all at training
WAA3-2 Lost 3-1 As day light breaks, antisapation can be felt in the air. The sun is shining, the birds are singing and not a single bit of breeze. And boy didn't we know that..... This is a winter sport isn't it? But how good was it to have a reserve this week!!! Welcome Jodie to the team and what a great effort. A goal on debut. Hope you realise this is expected every week now!!! It was 1 all at half time and the red frogs came out again from Bianca to recharge us for the 2nd half. A few positional changes saw a tight start for the 2nd half in defence. Shanae was switched into the back line and what a great decision this was. Nothing was going to get past Shanae, not even the ball. What seems to be beating us is our fitness. Nanna Chez seemed to be on the ground trying to catch some shut eye, more than she was on her feet. Kylie, Ash & Bullet yr young legs are great, keep it up. Max and Brooke your talk & direction, as well as your encouragement is just fantastic. We have a week off now for ANZAC day so we can remember all our soldiers who fought to save our country.
